This failure come to light when the issues and concerns that are the focus of the mainstream press (white) are compared with those that are the focus of the not mainstream press ("Colored"). Me thinks that our own local PBS television station is "guilty" of this consensus-bias. Also, I would suggest that the failure of the Fourth Estate is only "the tip of the iceberg" and that our good ship Titanic Liberal Arts is, in fact, slowly sinking into oblivion. I will be getting in touch with you to find a time we might get together for coffee to discuss. Take care. The subject of the course to paraphrase was;

Because the purpose of education and training is to make stupid people look smart, it is in management’s interest to be able to differentiate between “smart” people from those who only “look” smart.

The text we used was titled: The Invisible War, Pursuing Self-Interests at Work by a couple of clowns from UCLA by the names of Samuel Culbert and John McDonough, published in 1980. The last time I looked you could buy a copy on-line for a penny and $3.99 shipping and handling. I found it completely unreadable. I still have my first edition, it is full of notes and where I had to diagramed sentences to try to figure out what the authors were trying to say.

At almost the end of the semester, I was getting ready to go to work one morning, worrying about the grade I was going to get in a course without homework or tests. As I looking into the mirror, I had the most horrifying and self-esteem destroying revelation (epiphany?) that I had become well trained and educated to such an extent that I could differentiate people who were smart from those who “looked” smart.

Interacting with smart people lets me see texture, colors, and tone in a world I normally see as black, white, and shades of gray. Dealing with stupid people who act smart is not nearly as good but if one is cognizant of their shortcomings that they only know or understand what they know or understand it is bearable. They may have PHD’s, a blog, and be prolific writers but they bring nothing new to the world. In the last twenty years or so, I have observed more and more stupid people who appear to be smart promoting stupid ideas and being unwilling or unable to change.

Dealing with stupid people being stupid is the norm of our society, it provides full employment to our criminal justice and social welfare institutions. It requires a sense of tolerance, patience, and cooperation because most of them think they are smart and become offended when you point out how really stupid they are.

While I am forced to agree with you on AI not being able to do original work, it can definitely do the work of the stupid trying to look smart. Actually, it will do it better because the AI will have access to a much larger fund of ‘facts’. Though on the other hand, because AI is just a stupid person who looks smart, who programs it (educates and trains) will determine what it knows and understands, but that is no different than what we have now.
Bitter Clingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15098683001919502174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8638998837390550464.post-36943392620525757662023-03-04T11:17:29.125-06:002023-03-04T11:17:29.125-06:00This is a headsnapper reassessment from your 10/25...This is a headsnapper reassessment from your 10/25/22 "Take": "While I see no chance for the DFL to flip the Senate I am also doubtful that it will hold the House. Perhaps interconnected in the outlined scenarios is the conservative attempts to 'change the narrative' of history; to try to massage away the negative connotations of clearly racist, sexist and Christian-favored actions. Many of these decisions are fairly recent, but the steady crumbling of what is viewed as fact and the blurring of that with opinion started us on this road to where we are right now. Derek Felskahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09904774089690070427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8638998837390550464.post-46976236469601467982021-08-22T07:35:13.340-05:002021-08-22T07:35:13.340-05:00Your argument is nothing but a straw man attack. ...Your argument is nothing but a straw man attack. I don’t think anyone is saying that if Congress passed a mask mandate or a vaccination mandate or a law for the suspensions of evictions that it would not be constitutional. I am not saying it wouldn’t be challenged but Congress at least has the Constitutional authority.

There is even a 1905 small pox vaccination case (Jacobson vs. Massachusetts) which would make it appear that Congress, or at least State governments, can mandate vaccinations if the need was “clear and compelling for the public health or the public safety”. In the description of the opinion though the State must show that it: ”did not act in an unreasonable, arbitrary or oppressive manner”. With all the ‘breakthrough” cases of Covid from people with the “Trump” vaccinations and the fact that the virus is dangerous only to the old, obese, and immune compromised this may be a stretch. There is a line between the blessings of individual liberty that the Constitution wishes to secure and preserve and the tyranny of the common good, which should not be crossed.

Democrats control both houses of Congress along with the Presidency, they could pass mask, vaccination, and eviction legislation today if they wanted. Obviously, the Democrats don’t want to. If you want democracy, not a dictatorship of President Trump, this is what you get.

One final point. Healthcare is the second most regulated activity in the United States, only Nuclear Power is more highly regulated. (and how is that working for you?) ObamaCare promised “affordable” care but delivered anything but. As Jonathan Gruber pointed out, half the cost of healthcare is the salaries of the doctors, nurses, technicians, clerks, jerks, and security guards. All want more money and as healthcare is expanded more need to be hired. No cost cuts there. A third of the cost is bricks, mortar, hospital beds, MRI machines, and computer systems. If outcomes are to be improved we need to increase funding of this infrastructure. No cost cuts there either. The remaining sixth is the pharmaceuticals, with their protection by the predatory monopoly of the CDC, not much chance there either. He went on to say at the bottom line, ObamaCare was nothing more than getting the young, healthy, and responsible to pay for the healthcare of the old, sick and irresponsible.

We have been in this pandemic for 20 months so where are the facilities and where are the treatments? You feel sick, get tested, are positive, and are told to go home and to quarantine for 10 days. Of the thirty-two people I know personally who tested positive for Covid, only one (an 83-year-old) got any treatment at all. The rest got absolutely nothing. Where is your great health care system today besides covering up the fact that they bought and paid for the research that released SARS-CoV-2? Are smelly, unsanitary, homemade cloth masks and non-approved, experimental Trump vaccine the best we can do? It seems like it.
Bitter Clingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15098683001919502174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8638998837390550464.post-9884580871953250042021-08-21T06:46:15.289-05:002021-08-21T06:46:15.289-05:00They can argue on behalf of their clients in court...They can argue on behalf of their clients in court as well as representing them before criminal justice agencies and in other court proceedings such as trials and plea bargains. Source for more about criminal defense.ANTONY SMITHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12097413651008679916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8638998837390550464.post-11407096876516196792021-07-17T05:28:37.488-05:002021-07-17T05:28:37.488-05:00I have three comments.
#1. When President Georg...I have three comments.

#1. When President George W. Bush said, “Nation building takes a long time.” I laughed, what a fool, nation building takes FOREVER. The three countries we have successfully nation-built: Germany, Japan, and South Korea, after 80 years still have 120,000 United States military troops occupying them. I see no sign of a mission-accomplished ceremony in any of the three countries and a withdrawal any time soon.

#2. There is a lot of talk about the blood and treasure. The people who make those arguments are stupid and ignorant of fundamental accounting practice. You have fixed costs and you have incremental costs. We as a nation spend in excess of $600 billion a year on a 1.25 million man military, ships, planes, and nuclear bombs. How much less will we spend after we withdraw from Afghanistan? Not much I bet. The incremental costs, and there are some, to keep troops overseas is miniscule in comparison to the total (fixed) costs of building, training, and maintaining our military system.

Robert Persig wrote Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance almost 50 years ago in which he described the blending between different cultures. The United States troops stationed in these countries, even without interaction or only minimum interaction with the populations, still act as role models and influence the youth of the country. But it is generational, twenty years is hardly a start. They are the antithesis of the Ugly American of the 50’s and 60’s by showing courage, discipline, hard work, and all the other attributes of Systemic White Racism. (See Judith Katz’s https://www.cascadia.edu/discover/about/diversity/documents/Some%20Aspects%20and%20Assumptions%20of%20White%20Culture%20in%20the%20United%20States.pdf)

#3. Your Marx quote should be, “President Obama’s withdrawal from Iraq in 2011 was a tragedy. It led to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths, the rise and fall of that JV ISIS group, and turmoil and anarchy through out the mid-east. President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 is a farce and will continue Obama’s disastrous legacy.

Maybe the day will come when this is President Biden, then again maybe not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__6Qb2rgzuo
Bitter Clingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15098683001919502174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8638998837390550464.post-91105611020167942622021-07-13T15:07:42.585-05:002021-07-13T15:07:42.585-05:00As one who remembers those images as they occurred...As one who remembers those images as they occurred, I agree.Garyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05304423978309173994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8638998837390550464.post-91412439034997034992021-05-21T15:10:58.376-05:002021-05-21T15:10:58.376-05:00The second sentence is false.
